Here’s a photo of Jonny and Andy, lookin pretty spry at the base of the Stumptown climb. We had a great 45-mile ride on Sunday morning, averaging 17.0 mph during two hours and forty minutes of pedaling. You can see a map of our route and see some other statistics by clicking this link.

Why I Love People

This was going to be called, “Why I Love Bikers” but I didn’t want people to get the wrong idea

Today I took my new [24 year old] road bike (”Rosy”) out for our first date. About 20 minutes into my typical “Hour Bomber” ride I stood to climb up a little hill outside of Leesburg and SNAP the chain broke.

After muttering, “Rosy, how could you?” I weighed my options on the side of the road for about 30 seconds as a few cars passed. One guy in a charcoal BMW (and a “140.6″ bumper sticker) turned back around and asked if I needed any help. He didn’t have a new chain, but he offered to drive me back home! On the way I learned that he’s new to the area and has competed in two Iron Man triathlons. He also makes custom furniture for a living. What are the chances?

Anyway, thanks again Craig, and I hope to see you around! (The Reston Century is in late August)

Video of Lucas’ Football Tryouts

Lucas tried out for football this weekend, for the first season of his young career ;-). In addition to throwing and catching a few balls he was tested on the 40 yard dash (speed), shuttle run (agility), pushups (upper body strength) and vertical leap (lower body strength).

He did great! and you can check out the video below to see for yourself!

Fishing With Uncle Ricky

We spent July Fourth weekend at Ricky and Arian’s house. While most of the weekend was spent hunting for a new house, we did squeeze in some time to feed the fishies in the Oak Ridge Reservoir! Lucas caught 11, Ricky caught 4 and I caught 9!

Last week while we were vacationing in Maine I was standing in the water with my camera, trying to capture a video of Maya and Lucas playing in the (goddam freezing!) waves. Out of nowhere this smallish bird dived into the breakers and came up with a fish in its mouth! A bunch of these “Terns” hovered around us for about 10 minutes, catching 6 or so fish each!
